Building the Inclusive App Craft learning platform
I built Inclusive App Craft's learning platform end to end — courses and lessons, an in-browser code playground, assessments, and verifiable certificates — with accessibility considered from the start rather than bolted on.
The challenge
A learning platform has to work for everyone, including keyboard and screen-reader users, and it has to make learning to code hands-on without sending students off to a separate tool. I also needed certificates people could actually trust and verify.
How I approached it
- Designed a React/TanStack front end against a Django REST Framework API, covering courses, lessons, and student progress.
- Embedded an in-browser HTML/CSS/JS playground so learners practise without leaving the lesson.
- Built an assessment/quiz engine and issued verifiable certificates with a public verification page.
- Self-hosted the rich-text editor to remove a fragile third-party key dependency, and kept accessibility front of mind throughout the UI.
Outcomes
- A working platform covering the full path from enrolment to a verifiable certificate.
- Hands-on coding practice built directly into lessons via the playground.
- Certificates that anyone can verify publicly.
